Why is Resurrection Sunday (Easter) Important ?

It is the day death lost its power, and victory in Jesus reigns forevermore.

This is the gospel it is the good news for mankind. It is when God made a way where there seems to be no way! On Easter we celebrate the empty tomb. “He is not here; he has risen!” (Luke 24:6-7). Jesus had promised before his death: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

To understand what Jesus had accomplished we must go back to the beginning. To understand that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:37-39.

It is about Jesus love for you and me. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. (Gen 1:1-5)

There is a light in the beginning that dispersed all the darkness that was upon the earth three days before God created the sun, moon and stars. On the 6th Day

God speaks of Himself in plurality saying let us make man in our image.

We were created to bear the image of our creator.

Genesis 2:7

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The breath, the Spirit of life inters into man from God His creator. There was no life no motion until the breath of God, the Spirit of God Breathed into Him. Man goes from lifeless to alive. Mankind had all he needed to function, but could not until God breathed upon him. God creates man and women in His image giving them Authority and dominion over the earth. This place of darkness had been illuminated! The darkness had no more authority over it. Satan was kicked out of heaven he hated God, and now God’s creation bear His image. The Devil wanting to taint, destroy, separate, and bring darkness back by trying to pervert God’s creation. He tried separating man from God’s likeness by trying to get man to sin. He was successful in his attempt. Man sinned inviting the darkness of sin to come back,

BUT I AM GLAD THE STORY DOES NOT END THERE.

Isaiah prophesied the light has dawned its coming over the hill side the joy is coming in the morning the light is coming. John affirms this when he reveals Jesus in the creation story in John 1:1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:1-5. John 8:12 Jesus tells us he is the light of the world.

Jesus is the Light because of Jesus darkness could not stay. The Light has dawned.

Colossians 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.

GOD HAD A PLAN.

Gen 3:14-20

4 So the LORD God said to the serpent:

“Because you have done this,

You are cursed more than all cattle,

And more than every beast of the field;

On your belly you shall go,

And you shall eat dust

All the days of your life.

15 And I will put enmity

Between you and the woman,

And between your seed and her Seed;

He shall bruise your head,

And you shall bruise His heel.”

More accurate word would be smash or crush the serpents head. Here we have the promise of redemption in the mist of the curse of sin. Jesus God says you have not won! Victory would be given to those that are of the seed, or of the ones who serve God. The victory would be permanent and absolute. Furthermore, it would be accomplished through a great deliverer that would actually come from the seed of the very woman Satan had deceived.

YOU SEE.

After the first sin God was already making a way for us to be reunited with him.

There is going to be one who is born who will crush the serpents head. It shows Him standing over. The prophesy shows, the death of Christ only as a bruise in the process of crushing the enemy. The scriptures tell us that Christ was manifested to take away the sins of the whole world

Colossians 1:13-14

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

His sacrifice would do just that. God’s word also tells us, that Christ’s death would result in the absolute destruction of the WORKS of the devil.

1 John 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Romans 6:23 says for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 3:23 says for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

It wasn’t just Eve, It wasn’t just Adam. We have all sinned, and we all deserve the penalty of sin. But, again the story doesn’t end there. John the Baptist says Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Not just Eve’s sin not Just Adam’s sin, but my sin, and your sin.

1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The Plan is set in motion.

God set apart His own Special people, THE Israelites to teach the world the Laws of God. To show right from wrong, to bring forth the messiah that would save the world from their sins. He is spoke of throughout Scripture. The inspired Prophets Speak of Jesus often. The temple, the holidays, their customs, unknowingly all point to this coming messiah and who He is. In Isaiah 53 700 years before Christ Crucifixion tells what will happen to Jesus. It tells about him being beaten, about the strips upon his back for our healing. In Chapter 50 it tells of the plucking of His beard, the spitting, and the punching of His face. 700 years later Jesus is born. Our Yeshua our Salvation. 1 John 2:2 tells us.  He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

Here is the The Good News!

1 Corinthians 15:3-4

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures

He died he went to the cross for my sins and your sins, and death could not hold him. He died on the cross. He was Buried Behind a big stone. If death couldn’t hold Him, no stone could keep Him Back.

He Rose from the dead on the 3rd Day.

Matthew 27:51

Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,

Now our sins can be washed away, right relationship with God can be restored because God has supplied the Sacrifice. He made a way where there seems to be no way. The Gospel didn’t stop with Jesus as a baby. It didn’t stop with him on a cross, he rose again we have salvation through him.

What separated us from God was destroyed. This is why Easter is so important. It is when Jesus the son of God went to the cross willingly to take the punishment for our sins. So we can be saved, and walk once again with God our creator without separation.

Acts 16:31 says believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be Saved…
